A Brief Dissertation on one of the many reasons I support Obama:

i’m vehemently pro-choice. i can’t understand how anyone can, with clear conscience, be anti-choice (or “pro life” as they ironically call it) – how can you take away the right to freedoms and safety because of your definition of when a group of cells stops being caviar and becomes a baby?
that said, even if i was raped or in any number of extenuating circumstances, i could never, ever have an abortion. And yes, i’m glad my mother chose life. but i would rather i was never born than she had to live in a nation where the government took away her most personal freedoms.
The decision of when a life is a life isn’t one for us to make. I’m not saying it’s for God to make, because if that IS the case then there should be NO legislation what so ever dealing with abortion. Church and state should be seperate – and my morals should not interfere with the choices made by the girl next to me on the bus.

i went through an ‘abstinence only’ program in my school district, and i’ve seen first hand how badly that ends up for children who have to reconcile those principles with the morality espoused by our culture. Britney Spears didn’t choose abstinence. And since our health teachers never mentioned, much less took the twenty seconds to show us how to put it on a banana, condoms, how were we supposed to know that Mary would get pregnant? And that Martha would get syphilis, but because we never heard about contracting or preventing it, she didn’t get it treated, and now has serious medical problems?

McCain’s stance on women’s rights, family planning and education are all unacceptable.

Change is what this country needs. Change in abortion policies – abolition of the regulations that hinder a woman’s options or provide her inaccurate, biased information, reinforcement of rights and practices, support of healthy and safe options – changes in women’s rights and family planning – all these need improved. Much else about our government could use a change as well.

Obama is the man to do it. He has been thus far in his career, and I hope very sincerely he will continue to be.
